No Dice
3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
No Dice is a quartet of friends brought together two years ago through a love
of jazz music. These University of Guelph music students have been keeping
busy ever since; playing for audiences in Brantford, Guelph, Waterloo and
Toronto.
Their live performances will get you on your feet with up tempo swing, bop
and bossa tunes, and also let you get swept away in ballads and smooth jazz.
They are a joy to watch, playing off one another's creative energy throughout
their sets. Keep this charming group of up and comers on your radar, as they
undoubtably will be making a name for themselves in the near future. If you
want to sit back, relax and listen to your typical jazz band, sorry, No Dice!
High Rendition Jazz
4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The High Rendition Jazz Band was founded in 2008. This not for profit band
consists of talented musicians between the ages of 14 and 19, from various high
schools in the Burlington, Oakville and surrounding Halton area, brought together
by the love of jazz. Their vision is 'to be a recognized high performance youth jazz
band, making our communities a better place to live by playing great jazz'. High
Rendition Jazz is in its third year of operation for the 2010 season under the
musical direction of co-directors Darryl Eaton and Dan Glowala.

Darryl Eaton was educated at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the
University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto. He has toured with
the National Ballet of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the big bands of
Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton and Canadian jazz icon Phil Nimmons.

Dan Glowala completed his Bachelor of Music Honors Music Education degree,
from the University of Western Ontario and later attained his Music Specialist from
the University of Toronto.  Dan is currently a music educator at Rolling Meadows
Public School in Burlington, ON.

The band has performed locally at: The Oakville Relay for Life, the Oakville
Waterfront Festival, the Oakville Jazz Festival and at the 2010 “For the Love of the
Arts Festival”.

In May 2010, the group was also recognized at the MusicFest Nationals Festival in
Ottawa, ON with a Gold Award in the Instrumental Jazz Division. The group was
also recently featured in the Winter/Spring 2010 “Arts About Town” magazine
published by the Oakville Arts Council.

High Rendition Jazz is also a member of the Oakville Arts Council, where they are
taking an active role in promoting youth in arts!
