Tobias Yaremczuk-(Violin) Tobias began studying the violin at the early age of 5
years, under the musical guidance of his father Eugene Yaremczuk. Prior to
attaining a degree in performance at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, he was very
fortunate to have studied and perform with many Brant County professionals,
helping to keep the art of music connected to home. Residing in St. George Ontario
Tobias continues to freelance, perform, teach and compose.
Gene Yaremczuk-(Accordion) “Mean Gene the Accordion Machine” started playing
at the age of 14. Ever since, he has been a member of a musical ensemble of one
form or another. Born in Salzburg Austria, raised in Guelph Ontario and loves
everything Italian! (Just imagine being serenaded by an accordion and violin duo in
the Mediterranean).
Jay Burr-(Tuba) is an accomplished tubist who works as musician, sound
engineer/producer, and composer for 25 years. He has recorded and/or performed
with artists including: Sam Rivers, Veda Hille, Zubot and Dawson, Matthew Lien,
The Great Uncles of the Revolution, Mike Daley, Tim Posgate Hornband, John
Millard and Happy Day, Mike Trebilcock, and Tuba4. There are few tuba 'bass'
players in jazz, but he is definitely the one you have to hear. Jay is returning to
school this fall for a graduate degree in composition at York University."
Roberto (“Bobby”) Santos- (drummer/percussionist) began playing drum set in
grade 9 while attending St. Johns College High School in Brantford Ontario. After
graduating high school, at Assumption College in Brantford, Roberto began
studying privately with Mr. Frank DiFelice in preparation to enter the Applied Music
Program at Mohawk College, in Hamilton Ontario. After graduating from Mohawk
College in 1998, Roberto worked as a show band drummer for Carnival Cruise
Lines for one year. When returning from the Cruise Lines and residing back in
Hamilton, Roberto went on and continued his musical education by earning a
Bachelors Degree in Music from McMaster University, as well as a Bachelors of
Education from Nipissing University. Roberto currently teaches full time music with
the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School board, at St. Thomas More Catholic
Secondary High School in Hamilton Ontario. There, he directs the St Thomas Jazz
Band, an 18 piece ensemble. The St. Thomas More All Stat Jazz Band has
participated in Music Fest Canada on numerous occasions. “Bobbby” tries to keep
a busy performance and freelance schedule in the Hamilton and Golden
Horseshoe. Roberto leads his own Jazz Trio and other ensembles. Roberto pleased
and honored to be performing at this year's Brantford International Jazz Festival.
Chris Platt is a young and determined jazz guitarist currently in his third year at
Mohawk College in Hamilton. He began his studies under the guidance of Tristan
Clark and is currently studying with Bob Shields. Some of his teachers include
Kevin Dempsey, Darcy Hepner, Mike Malone, Carl Horton, Dave McMurdo and
Pat Collins. Chris began his musical pilgrimage with his roots in blues and classic
rock, and in high school developed a love for jazz after hearing John Coltrane on
Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Chris is also a recipient of the Richard Newell
Scholarship and plans to complete his degree upon graduation. He performs
regularly around the GTA at various restaurants and social events. The Chris
Platt trio features bassist and Mohawk alumni, Jon Stemmler and percussionist
Joey Ridos.
Richard Gillespie is a pianist with a focus on improvisational expression. He began
his musical education with acoustic guitar lessons at age 7. Switching to electric
guitar at age 12 and finally deciding to switch his main instrument to piano at age
14. As far back as he can remember, Rich has always had an interest in different
styles of music. This could explain the different musical scenarios that Rich
continues to find himself in. Rich has played, performed, or recorded in the following
musical styles: Reggae, Jam Band, Hip Hop, Blues, Funk, Ska, Latin, and Jazz. His
main love continues to be jazz in its many flavours, but Rich also keeps an open ear
to classical music. He is currently a Full-Time student at Mohawk College in
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where he is studying Jazz Piano. Rich's teachers have
included Adrean Farrugia, Pat Collins, Mike Malone, Dave McMurdo, Micheal Stuart,
and Darcy Hepner. Rich has also performed in masterclasses with Gary Smulyan
and Tom Scott.
Richard Gillespie is a musician who is in demand as a sideman. He enjoys to
collaborate with other musicians and hopes to continue to do so.
