Each September, interested young musicians from high schools
across Ontario are invited to participate in a formal audition to earn a
place in our Youth Big Band. Under the guidance of educator and
professional musician Jules Estrin, the band rehearsals provide
mentorship, and encourage development and growth.
Through out the year the gifted young musicians in the Youth Big
Band can be heard around town at various live gigs including
performing at Jazz Lives, our annual fundraising concert. In addition,
the Youth Big Band has performed at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival,
and with legendary guartist Bucky Pizzarelli as part of the Sound of
Jazz concert series. Thanks to the generosity of donors and
sponsors, uniforms , instruments and professional instruction are all
provided, free of charge.
